Can I plant edible plants in soil that could be tainted with viacaine?

I want to plant veggies around the side of my house, but i am reluctant because I recently had the place fumigated and the soil around the side of the house was underneath the tent. The gardener said that the bushes that are there now will probably die. I am uming that the viacaine gas gets into the soil. Is it safe to grow plants that i intend to consume in the tainted soil? Do you know if there a half life on viacaine?
