What's that christmas movie?

It's a cartoon about santa claus. I remember he started out just being a regular guy, and he carved a cat out of some wood for a little boy who loved it, so he started making a ton of toys for all the children. And he had a pet cat and a little elf-looking friend with a funny tail. Then he got old and sick and almost died and this angel of death or something came to take his Soul but a faerie said "no he's special" and then he became immortal. It's not santa claus is comin to town or the life and adventures of santa claus. It's not claymation either.
